City of Alexandria Announces Schedule of Services for
Monday, May 28, in Observance of Memorial Day

City government offices, including the administrative offices of the Alexandria Police Department, will be closed on Monday, May 28, in observance of Memorial Day. Full police patrol and emergency services will be in place during the holiday.

In accordance with Virginia State Law, the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits, on Monday, May 28. All other parking regulations will be in effect. Additionally, HOV restrictions on Washington Street and Route 1 will be lifted on Monday, May 28.

City schools will be closed on Friday, May 25 and Monday, May 28.

The Treasury and Revenue Divisions of the Finance Department, which are regularly open on Saturday mornings for payment of property taxes and parking tickets, will be closed on Saturday, May 26, and Monday, May 28.

Residential trash and recycling collection services scheduled for Monday, May 28, will occur on Tuesday, May 29, and collection services regularly scheduled for Tuesday, May 29, will occur on Wednesday, May 30. Residential trash and recycling collection services regularly scheduled for Wednesday, May 30, will occur on Thursday, May 31, and collection services regularly scheduled for Thursday, May 31, will occur on Friday, June 1.

On Monday, May 28, Charles Houston, Cora Kelly, Mount Vernon, Nannie J. Lee, and William Ramsay recreation centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Chinquapin Recreation Center will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Charles Barrett and Patrick Henry recreation centers will be closed on Monday, May 28.

City libraries will be closed on Monday, May 28.

DASH bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule on Monday, May 28. And beginning tomorrow, Alexandria’s new free weekend shuttle bus will provide service from the King Street Metro station to Market Square in Old Town. The bus, DASH About, stops frequently along King Street and will operate from 7 p.m. to midnight on Fridays, from 10 a.m. to midnight on Saturdays, and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays.

State offices in Alexandria, including the Circuit, General District, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District courts, the Clerk of Court Office, and the Alexandria Health Department, will be closed on Monday, May 28.
