Special Meeting
Tuesday, June 6, 2000 - - 3:00 p.m.

Present: Mayor Kerry J. Donley, Vice Mayor William D. Euille, Members of Council William C. Cleveland, Redella S. Pepper, Lonnie C. Rich, David G. Speck, and Lois L. Walker.

Absent: None.

Also Present: Mr. Sudduth, Director of Personnel Services.

OPENING

The Meeting was called to Order by Mayor Donley, and the City Clerk called the Roll; all Members of City Council were present with Councilwoman Pepper and Council Member Rich arriving during the Executive Session.

(It was noted that a Notice of this Special Meeting had been previously served upon each Member of Council, pursuant to a provision of the City Charter, a copy of the Notice certified by each Member of Council being on file in the office of the City Clerk and Clerk of Council.)

EXECUTIVE SESSION

2. Consideration of convening an executive session at this time for the purpose of interviewing and discussing the prospective candidates for the position of city attorney, pursuant to Virginia Code § 2.1-344(A)(1).

WHEREUPON, upon motion by Councilman Speck, seconded by Vice Mayor Euille and carried unanimously by all those present, City Council convened an executive session for the purpose of interviewing and discussing the prospective candidates for the position of city attorney, pursuant to Virginia Code § 2.1-344(A)(1). Upon conclusion of the executive session, the Council will adjourn and will reconvene at the Regular Legislative Meeting on June 13, 2000, and to the best of everyone's knowledge no business other than that which was stated in the motion to convene the executive session will take place. The voting was as follows:

Speck "aye" Cleveland "aye"
Euille "aye" Pepper not yet arrived
Donley "aye" Rich not yet arrived
Walker "aye"




Mayor Donley reiterated that the Council will convene in executive session for the purposes of interviewing candidates for the office of City Attorney, and there will be no further business taken up by the Council this evening other than the executive session at which point the Council will adjourn.

THERE BEING NO FURTHER BUSINESS TO BE CONSIDERED, the City Council went into executive session at 3:10 p.m., and will adopt a resolution pertaining to this executive session at its Regular Meeting to be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2000.
