Please take notice that Newly Elected City Council will hold its Inaugural Meeting on Monday, July 3, 2000, at 7:30 p.m., in the Council Chamber of City Hall, 301 King Street, Alexandria, Virginia, for the purpose of considering the following items:

1. Calling the Roll.

The Meeting was called to Order by Mayor Donley, and the City Clerk called the Roll; all Members of City Council were present except Councilwoman Eberwein.

2. Motion: That the Statement of the Secretary of the Electoral Board dated June 26, 2000, be Spread upon the Minutes.

WHEREUPON, upon motion by Vice Mayor Cleveland, seconded by Councilman Euille and carried unanimously by all those present, City Council requested that the statement of the Secretary of the Electoral Board be spread upon the Minutes.

3. Motion: I move that Kerry J. Donley, be and he hereby is, declared duly elected and qualified as Mayor of and a Council Member of the City of Alexandria, Virginia.

WHEREUPON, upon motion by Councilman Euille, seconded by Councilwoman Pepper and carried unanimously by all those present, Kerry J. Donley was duly elected and qualified as Mayor of and a Council Member of the City of Alexandria.

4. Motion: I move that William C. Cleveland, Claire M. Eberwein, William D. Euille, Redella S. "Del" Pepper, David G. Speck, and Joyce Woodson be, and they hereby are, declared duly elected and qualified as Members of the City Council for the City of Alexandria.

WHEREUPON, upon motion by Councilwoman Woodson, seconded by Councilman Euille and carried unanimously by all those present, William C. Cleveland, Claire M. Eberwein, William D. Euille, Redella S. "Del" Pepper, David G. Speck, and Joyce Woodson were declared duly elected and qualified as Members of the City Council of the City of Alexandria.

5. Declaration by the Mayor that the City Council is Duly Constituted and in Session.

Mayor Donley declared that the City Council of the City of Alexandria is hereby duly constituted and in session.

6. Confirmation of the Election of the Vice Mayor by the Newly Elected City Council Pursuant to City Charter Requirements.

WHEREUPON, upon motion by Councilman Speck, seconded by Councilwoman Pepper and carried unanimously by all those present, William C. Cleveland was confirmed as the Vice Mayor by the newly elected City Council.

WHEREUPON, upon motion by Councilman Euille, seconded by Councilwoman Pepper and carried unanimously by all those present, Council made the above appointments and added (ii) the Task Force to Study the Possibility of Creating a Northern Virginia Regional Transportation Authority, with Mayor Kerry J. Donley being Council's representative.

OTHER

8. Consideration of City Council Schedule.

Councilwoman Pepper spoke to the Successful Aging Expo. She suggested that a van be available to take the Council Members to and from the Episcopal Seminary during an extended lunch break at the October 14, 2000 Public Hearing Meeting.

Council approved the Council Calendar with the request that the October 14, 2000 Public Hearing Meeting lunch be an extended lunch break (Noon to 1:30 p.m.) so that Council can attend the Successful Aging Expo for that period of time. Council scheduled the Council Retreat for Friday, October 20, and Saturday, October 21, at the Catharine Lodge, Winkler Botanical Preserve.

New Business Item No. 1: Councilman Speck recognized Boy Scout Troop 1515 from St. Stephens/St. Agnes School.
